TXT record in DNS – CharacterStringTooLong

On this page

    Problem

In Staq DNS, you’ve added a TXT record and the interface delivers this error message:

[Invalid Resource Record: ‘FATAL problem: CharacterStringTooLong (Value is too long) encountered with ‘”v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=xxxxxxx””]

This occurs because AWS Route53 does not accept TXT records beyond 256 characters.

Below is a solution to rectify this without following the AWS guide in the above mentioned URL.

    Solution

We recommend this DNS record splitter:

    1. Insert your TXT record as per below
    2. Click Use quoted format for Google Cloud DNS
    3. Click Copy result to clipboard
    4. Paste back into Staq DNS
