How to enable automatic WebP image conversion?

On this page

Enabling automatic WebP images on Staq is super simple!

Follow these steps and start serving the images in the format preferred by Google.

    Navigate to Staq Cache Tool

Login into the backend of the website in question and click Staq Hosting from the top toolbar and select Settings.

    Please ensure you have both:

    • Cache; and
    • Optimizer

    both enabled.

Click Optimizer → Media on the left sidebar.

    Enable Serve Next-Gen Images (WebP)

Under ‘Optimizer’ , navigate to “Media” in the left side menu.
From there, toggle on ‘Serve next-gen images (Webp)’ and click Save.

Wallah! You’re now automatically converting, compressing and serving images in WebP format. You can say goodbye to WPRocket.

    Troubleshoot

If some WebP images are not showing, then checkout this guide on how to regenerate images into WebP.

    Limitation

Images that are served as a background-image cannot be served as WebP since those images are referenced inside the CSS file. However, a new feature is coming that will allow Staq to place the fallback image inside the CSS file. Stay tuned!
